To at least get these out of the way, you can select Move from the same menu and drag unwanted apps all to one side.

To do this, press Home on your remote, then scroll to the app shortcut you want to remove. Press Down to reveal a menu below the app, then hit Remove. This will show a confirmation window; select Remove again to take the app off your home screen.
