In every instance of inclement weather, District staff will check conditions on neighborhood streets, bus routes and school property in all SCS communities to determine if it is safe for travel to and from school and student activities. Consideration will also be given to weather conditions that would make it difficult or dangerous to operate schools. SCS makes every effort to give parents ample notice of school closure decisions. Changing conditions overnight, including power outages at a dozen schools, impacts of continued strong winds and road conditions across the county, have created unsafe driving for school buses and students getting to schools.

All CMS practices and games, as well as school events and after-school activities are cancelled. CMS staff has been in contact with local authorities throughout the morning to assess conditions in Mecklenburg County. The make-up day will be Monday, Feb. To ensure the safety of students and staff Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools will be closed today, Friday, Feb. The two-hour delay provides an opportunity for CMS crews to continue to assess road conditions and receive the latest on power outages in school buildings as a result of today's severe weather. These decisions were made in collaboration with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education. Testing all classroom tests will be re-scheduled. These delays were caused by technical issues across North Carolina with testing software. Some high schools experienced a delay in exam testing start times this morning. CMS appreciates the understanding of all CMS students, families and staff to allow time for all students to do their best on exams today.

With safety for students and staff as a priority, CMS closed select schools in three categories for Tuesday, Dec. CMS is also thankful for the partnership of local government, weather and safety experts and law enforcement. The district wishes to extend special recognition and gratitude to CMS operations and maintenance crews, custodians, building engineers and Duke Energy crews who worked tirelessly to enable our schools to open for everyone tomorrow.

Make-up for CMS school closures on Dec. Butler High School make-up day will not be Jan. A new date and further details for Butler High School will be announced soon. On this yet to be announced future date, Butler High School students, families, staff and supporters plan to learn together during a shared campus teach-in and other special events do we have school tomorrow due to weather will lift up the strength of the Butler community.
