Due to these model differences and the expectation for the axis of the mid-level trough remaining offshore, a related much below normal temperature is not designated. The mid-level pattern is anticipated to be fairly progressive, with the potential for a series of mid-level shortwave troughs propagating across the central and eastern CONUS during week An initial shortwave at the beginning of the period may support surface low formation and associated frontal activity across the central CONUS at the beginning of the period.

This surface low formation in addition to anticipated surface high pressure building across the Four Corners may result in a tight pressure gradient across the Rockies and High Plains, supporting increased likelihood for high wind speeds in the lee of the Rockies. The aforementioned potential surface low and frontal activity across the central CONUS combined with return flow from the Gulf of Mexico may also support increased chances for localized heavy precipitation across parts of the southeastern quadrant of the CONUS.

Due to the expectation of a fairly progressive pattern and the anticipation that this would not be a multi-day enhanced precipitation event, a related hazard is not designated at this time. Mid-level troughing and associated surface low formation over the Gulf of Alaska is forecast for Alaska throughout week However, reforecast tools are unsupportive of precipitation amounts reaching hazard thresholds, as the orientation of the associated surface low over Gulf of Alaska favors the majority of the strong onshore flow further south, primarily to the West Coast of the CONUS.

This weakens the jet stream but also shifts the winds to be more northerly.

The result is wet but much colder outlook for the end of the month, which is even cold enough for snow in northern Scottish hills. This is still just a risk though, as we think high pressure will be more transient until we get into November. Monday 1 November Sunday 14 November Staying wet but turning cooler and less windy. The first half of November should see a gradual change in the weather pattern from a more unsettled, windy, and changeable one to a cooler, less volatile outlook. We anticipate that high pressure will gradually build in the Atlantic to the west of Europe as we head toward mid-November.

This will likely slowly shift our preferred wind direction to north-westerly or even northerly at times. A colder air mass would then be able to reach into the UK from Iceland or Greenland, and temperatures should begin to trend below average. Low pressure should tend to remain close enough that it will still be a wet couple of weeks, but we do expect that winds will drop down as the jet stream weakens. If we get a few days of consistent northerly winds, we may see a cold snap and some frosty weather develop, mainly in northern areas.

Some showers in the west, a few of them heavy. Highs at a mild 13 to 17C. Most of the rain will be in more northern and western areas.

Rather breezy and mild again for most at 11 to 16C. Gales may affect southern areas too.
