National Drug Authority (NDA) informs the public that information awash the social media regarding paracetamol P/500 having a virus "Machupo" is false and incorrect. The Machupo virus is spread primarily via spray transmission of dust particles from the faeces and urine of infected rodents. The said viruses like many others cannot survive the paracetamol tablets manufacturing process. Protecting the human and animal population from poor quality, unsafe and ineffective drugs is a collective responsibility. The public is therefore advised to always buy drugs from licensed pharmacies or drug shops, seek advice from qualified health workers, and be vigilant against unscrupulous operators.
