Drugs disguised as cosmetics

Monday, 12th June 2017

On the 7th of June 2017, the Executive Director of National Drug Authority (NDA) Ms. Donna Kusemererwa and the Head of Inspectorate services, Mr. Nahamya David paid a courtesy visit to the office of the Commissioner Customs to discuss the now disturbing issue of the swelling importation of concealed drugs (cosmetics).

The recent NDA market surveillance in Kampala particular Kikuubo, established that such products are available in large quantities on the market, and could possibly have been "cleared" by URA as cosmetics. The samples collected were found to be drugs of different dosage forms of creams, ointment and lotions containing mainly Clobestasole and Betamethasone and steroids with serious side effects if misused.
